February 11th is National 211 Day! As you may know, 211 is the number to call if you’re experiencing homelessness and need shelter. It’s also a resource for a LOT of other things, from food to child care and so much more.
To enter Beach House Family Shelter, your first step is to call 2-1-1. You’ll be connected to an expert who can help you find shelter for yourself and your family.
2-1-1 is so much more than help for homelessness. Calling 2-1-1 connects you to the local resources you need, be it food, shelter, child care, or even disaster assistance.
Need assistance? Call 211 or visit their website: https://www.211.org/.
If you need local assistance of any kind, call 211 for local resources.
Find resources online if you’re experiencing symptoms. You can also find a huge amount of information that relates to the pandemic, including links to COVID-19 screening tool apps from Apple and Google Play.
Crisis & Emergency Help
If you’re experiencing a crisis and you’re unsure where to go or what to do, just call 2-1-1. This includes suicide prevention and assistance if you’re dealing with human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
Experiencing a disaster? 2-1-1 can help you find assistance. Go to the 211 website for disaster recovery information about FEMA assistance and more.
Need help paying your rent? 211 is an excellent resource to help pay your mortgage and utilities bills. When you call 211, you’ll be asked a few questions about your living situation, your income, and how many children or dependents live with you.
According to its website, “Food is the 3rd most common request for help that 211s receive every year. In 2019, 211s made more than 1.5 million connections to food programs and services.”
211 can connect you to local resources – on its website, 211 also lists food resources and programs to help you out, like:
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children)
- Free School Meals for Children
- Food Programs for Seniors
If you cannot pay your bills, then 211 can help by connecting you to local resources. Assistance can be found for housing, utilities, food, health care, and more.
“More than 815,000 people contacted 211 in 2019 for help finding medical care, paying medical bills, or obtaining prescribed medication,” is stated on 211’s website. Healthcare expenses can be difficult to manage. At 211, you can find resources for:
- Health Insurance
- Paying for Prescriptions
- Low-Cost Medical Care
- Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
