The Providence Center and Leading Families Home have merged services offered to better meet the needs of each Participant. We offer morning and evening classes, and now hold virtual classes as well. We offer: Men's Domestic Violence Perpetrator’s Group; Women Who Use Violence Group; Anger Management; Parent Education; and Parenting Plus & Parenting Support classes designed around the age of the child.

MEN'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PERPETRATORS & WOMEN WHO USE VIOLENCE GROUPS


Upon the successful completion of this 26-week program, Participants will learn and identify characteristics associated with their personal histories and types of abuse, plus effective communication and relationship strategies.


  • Learn personal history and how this relates to present behaviors
  • Identify different forms of abuse
  • Identify personal triggers
  • Focus on the batterers' responsibility to recognize and stop their physically violent and other abusive and controlling behavior
  • Identify from a victim’s/child’s perspective
  • Take responsibility for past, present, and future behaviors
  • Learn effective coping strategies
  • Utilize effective communication techniques
  • Identify and build positive relationships
  • Learn to make positive choices and goal-setting

ANGER MANAGEMENT


This class is a cognitive-behavioral approach to dealing with anger. Upon the successful completion of this 10-week program, Participants will learn and be able to apply the following concepts.


  • Define anger as a felt state of emotion
  • Have an understanding of their triggers, body sensations and expressive patterns while angry
  • Understand the short and long term outcomes of anger and how they can be positive and negative
  • Have knowledge of how anger can affect interpersonal relationship, health, and evaluations of oneself and others
  • Identify the personal costs anger
  • Learn techniques for short term anger avoidance and escape
  • Learn to use social interaction skills to minimize conflict during daily interaction
  • Become more assertive, in a manner that is not hurtful to others, when communicating their personal desires and feelings
  • Learn to relax through deep breathing, imagery and cue-control
  • Apply problem solving techniques to situation that cause stress
  • Understand power and control verses equality in a relationship
  • Understand how the laws of attraction and positive thinking can reshape thoughts and behavior
  • Define forgiveness and practice forgiving responses
  • Relapse prevention

PARENT EDUCATION


The Parent Education classes have two components. There are 2 contacts a week that include one education class and one observation/demonstration in the home.


Parenting 0-3 approved curriculum based service is 12 weeks and includes topics such as:

  • Infant and toddler learning
  • Infant and toddler safety
  • Infant and toddler development
  • Parental time-outs
  • Medication and illnesses
  • Infant and toddler nutrition needs and sleep needs
  • Toilet Training
  • Child care - choosing daycares or sitters
  • Infant and toddler hygiene- dental, diaper care etc.
  • Child proofing and first aid
  • Pregnancy
  • Home-made toys
  • Healthy snacking - homemade snack ideas

PARENTING PLUS & PARENTING SUPPORT


Upon the completion of this 12 week class and in home program, participates will have learned and will be able to apply a variety of positive parenting skills as listed below. It is suggested that each client who is enrolled in the Parent Plus group will also be referred for the Parent Support program. This is an in-home observation of the client and his or her child(ren). Observations are made regarding learned classroom material and client behavior. In addition, additional one on one help will be provided to help direct client in a positive manner.

  • Identify and build upon strengths and coping skills
  • Learn problem solving steps and apply these steps to unique problems.
  • Recognize feelings and relaxation techniques.
  • Learn how to use positive statements to be your cheerleader
  • Identify, map, and expand upon social supports.
  • Learn how to praise children and being the child’s cheerleader
  • Practice active listening.
  • Learn how to give children directions and choices
  • Understand and practice limit and rule setting
  • Understand and practice consequences for breaking the rules
  • Understand time outs for both parents and children
  • Age specific discipline strategies
  • recognize, manage, and express anger without hurting your children
  • recognize the need for further professional help
