Need emergency shelter in Toledo, Ohio? We’re here to help! To enter a shelter, please start by calling 2-1-1 , which is the entry point for all shelters in Toledo’s Continuum of Care (CoC), run by the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board (TLCHB). Once you connect with a specialist, tell them your situation and what you need. They’ll work with you to find a shelter that fits your needs and has availability for you.

Emergency Homeless Shelters for Single People
Several emergency shelters in Toledo offer services for single men and women. They include Cherry Street Mission Ministries, Rebekah’s Haven, Sparrow’s Nest, St. Paul’s Community Shelter, and Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission.
Cherry Street Mission Ministries
Emergency Shelter for Single Homeless Men
Cherry Street Mission Ministries offers emergency shelter for single people over 18. The shelters for men and women are separate; the women’s shelter is called Sparrow’s Nest. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The shelter serves three meals a day, seven days a week. Cherry Street will also provide a packed lunch to those who are employed. Sleeping areas are shared. There is no limit to how long a resident can stay at Cherry Street.
This is a faith-based emergency shelter. There is a no-smoking policy and curfew is at 9pm.
You do not need identification, such as a driver’s license, to enter this shelter. The staff at Cherry Street will help you get identification once you arrive. If you need to register as a sex offender, staff will also help you complete that.
All belongings must be placed in a storage tote that shelter residents may access twice a day. All storage totes will be placed in a locked room.
Cherry Street Mission offers many workplace development classes to help shelter residents move toward employment. These skills include Pre-GED, culinary, digital literacy, tool and die, welding, manufacturing technician, and customer service.

Rebekah’s Haven
Emergency Shelter for Single Homeless Women
Rebekah’s Haven is a faith-based mission and is part of the Toledo Rescue Gospel Mission. It is an emergency shelter for women who are 18 or older. The shelter also welcomes mothers with small children.
The shelter offers Bible studies regularly for its residences. The emergency shelter also offers family support and pregnancy / postpartum care.
There are rooms that accommodate families, furnished with bunk beds for kids and a bed for mom. There is a playground for children, along with books, games, and stuffed animals. There is also an Activity Room just for kids.
Those staying at the shelter are given daily chores to help them build practical skills. This shelter offers referrals to local agencies for housing, transportation, dental, legal, and health services. There are groups offered and activities for young kids.

Sparrow’s Nest
Emergency Shelter for Single Homeless Women
Sparrow’s Nest is the women’s shelter offered through Cherry Street Mission Ministries. The emergency shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are 54 beds in the facility. There is no time limit for those residing at the shelter.
The shelter offers a Ready For Life (RFL) Program which provides assistance to obtain a degree and employment counseling.
Ready For Life Program for Women includes:
- Individual Case Management
- Celebrate Recovery/Reformers Unanimous (Faith-based 12-step program)
- Community Reconciliation
- Offended No More
- Spiritual Mentorship
- Computer & Job Readiness Training
- Budgeting & Financial Management
St. Paul’s Community Shelter
Emergency Shelter for Single Homeless Men & Women
St. Paul’s Community Center is a faith-based emergency shelter for single men and women. St. Paul’s provides food, shelter, support services, and job and housing referrals. St. Paul’s prioritizes shelter for those with persistent mental illnesses.
The emergency shelter offers beds and food for those experiencing homelessness in Toledo.
The following services are offered:
- Residential Services
- Payee Program (manages Social Security income)
- Needs-Assessments
- Advocacy (benefit entitlement, substance abuse prevention, nursing services)
- Life Skills Training
- Socialization
- Food Programs
- Social Security Benefits Screening
St. Paul’s partners with others in the community to bring food and services to their residents, like Paul Mitchell’s Beauty School. The Beauty School visits St. Paul’s regularly and offers hair cuts to residents.
St. Paul’s Payee Program is for those in Lucas County who live with mental or physical disabilities. The program provides financial management. The program is described as, “a homeless prevention program by ensuring the individual’s rent and utilities are paid in a timely manner. Excess income is distributed throughout the month based on the needs and wants of each individual.” ( St. Paul’s Payee Program )
St. Paul’s also provides shelter during the winter through its Winter Crisis Program. Over 2,600 homeless individuals are served through this program during winter. The shelter provides dinner and breakfast as well as hot showers and clothing.
Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission
Emergency Shelter for Single Homeless Men
This faith-based mission offers emergency shelter for homeless men over 18. (Rebekah’s Haven is the emergency shelter for women offered through TGRM.)
Shelter is provided night-to-night for men experiencing homelessness. The shelter has a curfew of 6pm and requires its residents to be sober and act cooperatively while they reside at the shelter.
There is a nightly chapel service offered to residents, as well as dinner, hot showers, and a clean bed. Residents are also offered breakfast in the morning.
Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission provides a Work Skills Program to teach residents life skills, work ethics, and work therapy. During lunch, devotions are also offered to residents.
Emergency Homeless Shelters for Families
There are three emergency shelters in Toledo that cater to families: La Posada, Family House, and Beach House Family Shelter. These shelters offer beds, food, and services for two-parent and single-parent families with children.
Catholic Charities: La Posada Shelter
Emergency Shelter for Families
La Posada , an emergency shelter located inside a house in Toledo, is part of Catholic Charities. This family emergency shelter offers shelter, home-cooked meals, clothing, personal hygiene products, and case management. There is also a garden where families can grow veggies.
Programs to enable families to become self-sufficient are also offered. Child care and activities are offered as well. Bible study is held for residents on a daily basis.
Family House
Emergency Shelter for Families
Family House caters to all types of families in Toledo:
- Married couples with or without children
- Unmarried couples with children
- Same-sex, cohabitating couple with or without children
- Single parents
- Single pregnant women
The Family House Shelter does not allow drugs, alcohol, or weapons into its facility. A state-issued photographic ID and a birth certificate for each child is required. The shelter does not accept registered sex offenders, those with open felony warrants, or those convicted of crimes against children.
Family House provides home-cooked meals and clothing for shelter residents.
Educational services are also offered through Family House, including:
- Free, anonymous HIV testing
- Financial education
- Life skills – relationship building, social etiquette
- Medical care
- Nutrition classes
- Parenting classes
- Pre-natal care
- Sex education
- Support groups for residents with mental health challenges, including depression
Leading Families Home: Beach House Family Shelter
Emergency Shelter for Families
Beach House Family Shelter (dba Leading Families Home) is a family-centered emergency shelter in Toledo. The shelter accepts 2-parent and single-parent families with children.
The shelter is located in a Victorian home and offers a home-like experience for Participants including food and comfortable rooms. The shelter also offers assessment, case management, and training programs, such as financial and health education.
Beach House Family Shelter offers a beautiful, Victorian-esque environment that includes a kitchen, eating area, family room, and outdoor area for relaxation. It also offers a kids’ area outside with swings, a playset, and slide.
Several personal growth programs are also offered through the shelter, as well as programs and activities for children.
Emergency Shelters for Domestic Violence Survivors
There is one emergency shelter in Toledo for those fleeing domestic violence: YWCA. The YWCA offers a confidential and safe environment that helps those who have left an abusive situation and need shelter, food, and support to get back on their feet.

Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter
The YWCA is a domestic violence shelter for those fleeing abuse. They offer a Crisis Line at (419) 241-7386 or (888) 341-7386. The shelter’s crisis hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. YWCA also offers intakes 24/7.
This emergency shelter has 17 rooms and 46 beds.

Emergency Shelters for Youth
The Zepf Center’s Safety Net Shelter is the only emergency shelter in Toledo that serves homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. This shelter is for those who are in an unlivable situation and need a place to rest, food to eat, and support.
Zepf Center: Safety Net Shelter
Youth Emergency Shelter
Safety Net is an emergency shelter for runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth in NW Ohio. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Youth from 12 to 17 are provided with shelter, support services, and life skills training.
While at the shelter, staff will work with the resident to create a plan to exit the shelter, through reuniting with their parents or caregivers, or another safe living situation. No matter how long a youth stays at Safety Net, they will be given 90 days of follow-up care from the staff.
According to the Safety Net website, youth who are 12 to 17 years of age may become a resident “if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Youth who are experiencing a family crisis to the point where safety, physical health or emotional health is at risk
- Youth who have run away
- Youth who have been asked to leave their residence
- Youth who are homeless or couch hopping from place to place
- Youth who are stranded in the area
- Youth who are being physical, sexual, or emotional abused and need to get help
- Other situations that are a crisis for the resident (i.e. resident is lost, resident’s guardians cannot be located, etc.)”
“*Custodial consent is required for minor residents who remain in the Shelter for more than twenty-four hours . Staff will try to obtain consent at admission or as soon as possible unless there are reasons to delay the contact with guardians.”
